0 of 8 ready

01 Your setup

How to do it
  1. Windows 10/11 or a Mac from roughly the last 6 years works. Ideally 8GB of RAM or more.
  2. Run any pending updates now (Windows Update / macOS Software Update) so it doesn't restart in the middle of class.
  3. Make sure the charger works and the keyboard, mouse/trackpad and camera are OK.

No computer? Borrow one or use a cyber café for live sessions. Just don't try to build on a phone.

How to do it
  1. Download it from google.com/chrome and install.
  2. Open Chrome → click the ⋮ menu → Help → About Google Chrome to update to the latest version.
  3. Sign in to Chrome with your Google account (next item) so your bookmarks and passwords follow you.
  4. Allow pop-ups for make.com (Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Pop-ups). Connecting apps opens a pop-up window.
How to do it
  1. Test your speed at fast.com. Around 10 Mbps or more is comfortable for live video.
  2. Sit close to your Wi-Fi router for live sessions, or use a cable if your laptop has a port.
  3. Set up a backup: turn on your phone's hotspot once to make sure it works, and keep some data on your bundle for class days.
How to do it
  1. Create one at accounts.google.com/signup, or use an account you already have.
  2. Tip: a separate practice account (e.g. yourname.automation@gmail.com) keeps experiments out of your personal inbox.
  3. Turn on 2-Step Verification (myaccount.google.com → Security). You'll be connecting it to other apps.
  4. Open sheets.new and create a blank sheet called "Bootcamp Practice". You'll use it in class.

02 Free accounts to create

How to do it
  1. Go to make.com/en/register and sign up. "Sign up with Google" is fastest.
  2. Pick the free plan. If it asks you to choose a hosting region, either one is fine.
  3. Skip or click through the welcome tour. Then click Scenarios → Create a new scenario and look at the empty canvas. That's where we'll build.
  4. Bookmark make.com in Chrome so it's one click away on class day.

You don't need to build anything yet. Just get in and get familiar.

How to do it
  1. Sign up at chatgpt.com or claude.ai (free plans are enough).
  2. Try this prompt: "Explain what an API and a webhook are, like I'm 12, with a real-life example."
  3. Then ask it: "I do [describe one boring task from your week]. How could it be automated?"
  4. Use it a little every day this week. Ask follow-up questions and tell it when an answer isn't clear.

03 Homework & stay connected

How to do it
  1. Look back at your last week: what did you copy and paste, type more than once, or do the same way every time?
  2. Write each one like this: "When ___ happens, I ___, then I ___."
  3. Example: "When someone fills my contact form, I copy their details into a spreadsheet, then I send them a welcome email."
  4. No job or business yet? Pick tasks from a business you know: a church, a shop, a school, a friend's side hustle.

Bring these to the first class. We'll pick one and automate it together.

How to do it
  1. Follow the bootcamp WhatsApp channel: tap here to open it, tap Follow, then tap the 🔔 bell so you get notified about every update.
  2. Find our welcome email ("You're on the list…"). If it's in Spam or Promotions, move it to your Primary inbox.
  3. Reply "got it" to that email. This tells Gmail our messages are wanted, so launch details don't get lost.
You're 100% ready. Screenshot this and tag us on social. You'll be first in line when enrollment opens.
